Peroxide is Better than Bleach

Updated: Mar 8, 2020

This is an amazing, all natural secret that blew me away once I started biohacking! It works just as well as bleach, yet is so much healthier for the environment and our families.

Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) has the same chemical make up as water (H2O), with an added oxygen atom. It was founded in the late 1700s, is mostly known in the home to clean wounds, but is found in hospitals around the world. Hydrogen Peroxide (HP) has been proven to kill 99.9% viruses and bacteria, mold and fungus. I use this HP undiluted in a spray bottle to clean inanimate objects. All you need is 3%, nothing hospital/industrial grade. I love using vinegar in my home to clean the floor, but it isn't quite as effective in killing as HP. Study & study discussing uses of peroxide to kill viruses and bacteria. \

Update: The EPA put out a list of approved cleaners to kill COVID-19. If you look closely there is a peroxide product. IF you look up that product, it has three ingredients, HP, fragrance, and a surfactant (something to help remove dirt). So I am sticking with cheap pure HP. As of 3/7/20, Amazon and my local Walmarts are all out of HP.

From the CDC:

Mode of Action: Hydrogen peroxide works by producing destructive hydroxyl free radicals that can attack membrane lipids, DNA, and other essential cell components. Catalase, produced by aerobic organisms and facultative anaerobes that possess cytochrome systems, can protect cells from metabolically produced hydrogen peroxide by degrading hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen. This defense is overwhelmed by the concentrations used for disinfection 653, 654.

How I disinfect. I spray everything down, and then allow it to sit for 5-10 min, then wipe it all down. Do a test area on flooring, etc before using. I've never had an issue with discoloration, but it can bleach.

Update: I have began spraying down my packages at my front door and allowing them to dry before bringing them inside to kill the germs. I also try my best to spray down my groceries before putting them in the pantry. A great hack: place a spray bottle sprayer on the large bottles of HP! This way it's easily recognizable and it remains in the necessary dark bottle.

Where should you disinfect:

  • Doorknobs

  • bathrooms, paying extra attention to all of the toilet, bathtubs, and handles on the sink

  • Kitchen sink, all handles in kitchen.

  • Light switches

  • Soap dispensers

  • Handrails

  • Doorbell and outside knobs of door

  • Floors

  • Hot rinse cycle with HP to clean washing machine. You can also add 1 cup to your whites to disinfect.

  • Pour 1/2c of HP in the toilet and I let it sit for an hour

  • Soak your toothbrush for 30 minutes

  • Phones and other handheld electronics

  • Interiors of our cars
